Call it fate, call it Murphy’s Law, call it plain old crappy timing… Just don’t call Sony for help… My fiance’s birthday is inn 2 day’s… November 6th… His PS3 just had a birthday too. It turned 2, and celebrated by committing suicide. Goodbye NHL Hockey ‘09, Hello Red Light of Death(also known as the Yellow Light of Death). Now, I did a little research on the internet, thinking maybe this is an isolated incident, or perhaps we did something wrong. Turns out, there are thousands of posts on forums and websites, mourning the premature death of their beloved PS3, victim of the blinking red light. Theories vary… Is it the power supply, or an overheating issue?

So, what do you do? Well, if this were your XBox 360, experiencing the “Ring of Death,”you would call Microsoft and find out that they had extended the warranty for this condition. However, you own a Sony PS3, and despite thousands of complaints, they deny that there is an issue with hardware failure. However, you do have some options… You can return your PS3 that you paid $399 dollars for, and they will generously replace it with a refurbished model for only $149.95, with free shipping. What a bargain! And all the downloads you paid for? Lost as well.. If you can’t afford 150 bucks for a used PS3 with a 90 day warranty, there is an extremely detailed tutorial on You Tube that will show you how to completely dismantle your console, get the motherboard all hot and bothered with a heat gun so the solder will reconnect the CPU with the motherboard . Of course, the videos alone are 20 minutes long… and unfortunately that doesn’t show you how to put the thing back together after the “repairs.” Also, the tutorial and most of the comments tell you that the console will fail again. Finally, some enterprising soul has launched an e-book affiliate program thing that you can buy… Maybe I should start selling that to raise money for a new system…

So what are we going to do? Wait… Wait until I get some freelance pay in, and see how much we can get for the dead PS3. Then we will trade it in (for a pittance I am sure) and upgrade to the 120 Gig model for $299, plus lord knows how much for an extended warranty. Until then, sad dad and games gathering dust on the shelf.

Total nerdgasm. I played for hours, he cooked the best burger ever for dinner. Life just doesn’t get any better. Today, heaven came crashing down. Right at the end of an instance (where my Death Knight was running low levels through a dungeon), right when we were fighting a swarm of bad guys and my party members were depending on me to squash them all… my router died. There I was, spells flashing around me, corpses explodin’, dead bad guys everywhere… I was on the verge of getting an achievement… and it all went away. I spent an hour or so with a tech support fellow this afternoon… Still no router. I am positive the solution is out there. In the meantime, the PC and the PS3 get to fight over the ethernet cord from the modem. Such bliss. Update: the next day we got all the wireless all figured out, but alas, the computer had already been moved back to it’s original spot, back to the 25″ monitor.

Now, I think I have become a true mom-blogger. Still filled with all that insight and wisdom, I have narrowed my focus so I have more time to devote to sharing this on my blog. I also am learning to be a better writer, so hopefully when you leave my site you feel you are taking something with you that may make your day a little better.

Oh wait.. Work.. that is what I was talking about… Work is important. Starting a business is important and scary. Having your nose in “The idiots guide to doing this thing you desperately need to do for your business” while dangling the baby on your lap is just pure insanity. I do have a fix for the keyboard thing… We gave the baby her own keyboard… The only problem is, I tend to type on her (unconnected) keyboard, and then cannot figure out where the heck my letters are…

World of Warcraft (or margaritas, a good book, a hot bath, ice cream or chocolate) is important too. These unwinding mechanisms are what make the insanity bearable, even laughable. Of course, we need to keep all things in moderation. Last night, I failed to do so… I was on a mission… ***Nerd Alert! Nerd Alert!*** I am trying to get my Death Knight to Level 70 so I can get my flying mount… So I stayed up until 2am (with the baby sleeping in one arm) doing instances with my guild in order to get experience. I did level to 67, and felt very accomplished. However, when it came time to get the 1st grader up for school this morning, I suffered WOW regret.

Aside from my relaxing activities, I am busy with my Graphic Design business, my partners “Handyman” business, getting my son his CHSPE this summer (since school is not working for him), moving my daughter out into an apartment, and all other manner of life stuff. I do however solemnly pledge to write something coherent on at least an every other day basis. Thank you for tuning in… DoozieMom

As a parent, you buy a lot of toys. You buy toys for your partner, you buy toys for your children. Criminy, you even buy toys for the dogs and cats. Now, I feel like it is time to start looking for a toy all my own. Since I spend so much time on the internet, I have set a goal to acquire a Sony Bravia KDL-40W5500 40in LCD TV. This ultra-modern LCD TV will let me enjoy TV, movies and even World of Warcraft with its many advanced features. I can look forward to full HD resolution, 100Hz processing for sharp, fluid motion (great for gaming).
Dear Family,

As you can see, our youngest child is following in her family footsteps. First thing this morning, she had to help ‘lil Bubba play SuperSmash Brothers Melee. She sure thinks she knows what she is doing, working the joystick and smashing the “A” button for all she is worth. After that, she crawled over to the PS3 and got the microphone and started singing. Never mind the fact that GuitarHero wasn’t on, she doesn’t need that to sing anyway!

I guess the poor child is cursed, as you will, by a family of game loving nerds. Her big Bubba and I are WOW nerds, and her dad is all about SoCom and Guitar Hero. ‘Lil Bubba is all about Game Cube, and we all get together and play Guitar Hero and Mario Party. Anytime we play, Rach needs to have her controller too. Do not worry! We also read, do legos, swim and play with “stuff.” So Grandma, if you are reading this… You do not need to call tonight with warnings about raising a well rounded child.

Love,

DoozieMom

having labored all day to get the look of my new theme just right, I am crossing my fingers that I don’t get caught by murphy’s law… Especially since my site has been down more than it has been up since my misguided attempt to do my own upgrade.

Today was on of frustration as I searched high and low to get just the right images that convey the look of my family. It’s pretty close, although my “almost road-kill” teen can’t ride a skateboard anymore, and I can barely drag the 6-year old off the Game Cube long enough to go outside, let alone ride a bike… I had to do some tweaking on everybody, and if Dad and I are a bit slimmer, and perhaps a bit less gray than real life… well, you gotta love Photoshop!
